Underwhelming

| Thursday, June 10, 2010
This is about the Blackhawks last night, so odds are you don't care.

The end of the game was a terrible feeling of stressful "oh shit we could lose at any second" followed by "So what's going on now?" Kane takes a shot, starts celebrating, the Blackhawks decided to join in, though they clearly weren't quite sure, and the Fliers are sort of standing around like "Where's the puck? Can we get back to the game?" Being an away game, the fans weren't going to start cheering. Meanwhile they're reviewing the cameras to see if they can figure out where the puck went.

Turns out it went in.

Maybe I'm spoiled, having grown up with the Bulls in the 90s being totally dominant. I can hear the buzzer sound and people just swarm onto the court. Or that clock is ticking and Paxon puts in that last, game-winning shot and again, people swarm the court. No ambiguity or reviewing of videos. Win or lose (usually win).

Despite that, I was still glad I watched.

Both Paxson's shot in '93 and Kerr's in '97 were hit with time on the clock (as well as Jordan's in '98)...all of those times the other team had a chance to win the game at the buzzer. A Stanley Cup OT winner on the road is always going to be awkward no matter how obvious it is, if the game had been at the UC the crowd just would have gone berserk 3-5 seconds later than normal (which is what happened in every bar in the city).

Yes totally underwhelming. HOWEVER, even if you're not a Blackhawks fan, it's a very memorable moment outside of the Blackhawk's Cup drought. It's so underwhelming, but we will always remember it, for that reason.

PS Brett Hull is STILL in the crease.

You're propably right; someday I'll tell people about this strange end to a game.

doofman, please do not ruin my nostalgia-distorted memories. That shot was clearly taken right before the buzzer from prslactically halfway down the court and was carried part of the way by angels.

I have absolutely no idea what this article was about.

Is a Blackhawk some kind of spaceship?

It's a nuclear missile.
